Property Details

The Atlantic Inn was originally established in 1928 as the Atlantic View Hotel, when it was the first inn to be built on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Earning a well-deserved position on the National Register of Historic Places, the inn had provided lodgings for fishing tourists, duck hunters and seekers of a peaceful getaway until 2003, when Hurricane Isabel devastated Hatteras. In 2006, the inn was raised up and re-opened as “The Seaside Inn” operating under several managers until the end of 2019. In 2020, the current owners bought the rather run-down century-old hotel and spent the next year completely renovating and restoring it,  before re-opening in April 2021 as “The Atlantic Inn”.

There are no corporate hotel vibes here – this inn has been lovingly rebuilt to reflect the original character and intent of an historic seaside Inn, within an easy stroll of the Atlantic Ocean.

Each of the suites and rooms have their own unique and individual style, decor, and character, but all are designed with the comfort of today’s travelers in mind. In keeping with the structure’s storied past, the layouts  vary, but every room/suite has a beautifully updated bath, and all are equipped with wall mounted flat-screen TVs, Wifi, Keurig coffee makers, and mini-fridges for the guests’ convenience.

This inn has been lovingly restored by the current owners to re-create a modernized version of the classic seaside resort from 100 years ago.  Each room/suite has its own unique character, and together with  both indoor and outdoor common areas, it creates a cohesive guest experience just waiting to be enjoyed.

In addition to all of the other guest amenities, there is another room (with luxury bath) that has been finished as a spa/relaxation area, which is currently used exclusively by the owners.  It could easily be repurposed for additional revenue generating opportunities as-is, or with minimal effort converted to another guest unit.

Now that the renovations have been completed, the sellers’ primary focus has shifted to other projects, in other locations.  The business has been reopened, but is currently operating on a limited basis, so it has yet to achieve its full potential…and it has been priced accordingly.

With enhanced marketing and a focus on expanded operations, the income (and profits) from this business could become substantial in this highly-desirable tourist destination.

The owners’ quarters is currently a 2 bedroom, 1 bath space.  It has 3 entrances: one from the 2nd floor guest common area; one to a semi-private deck; and one that goes into the kitchen & service area.

It also has access to a 3rd floor attic area, which is finished (including heating and air) and includes a full bath.  Currently being used as storage, this area could be partitioned off and used for even more guest space, or an expansion of the owners’ quarters, if desired.

Location Details

Region: Mid-Atlantic

Address: 57321 NC 12, Hatteras, NC  27943

The Village of Hatteras is a quaint and charming town, located on Hatteras Island and part of Dare County and the Outer Banks, about 90 minutes south of Nags Head NC. The Village is a well-positioned beach tourism spot as there are shops, fine restaurants and many outdoor activities that comprise good use of the land and water.  Since the main route ends on this island, there is ferry service that provides alternative access to the mainland of NC as well as Ocracoke Island.

Beach access is close, as illustrated in the photo below, but the property is also buffered from direct impact from ocean storms and waves.
